My journey into African Caribbean ceramic lineages began during my MFA, sparking a research path that fundamentally redirected my creative practice. This exploration culminated in a Fulbright residency in Jamaica, where I immersed myself in the traditions of Rosetown potters and collaborated with contemporary makers who serve as the current guardians of this ancestral wisdom.

This foundational research has evolved into The Last Potters, a documentary series honoring the final generation of African Caribbean artisans preserving centuries of hand-building knowledge. These makers continue to coil, pinch, and refine clay—foregoing modern machinery for techniques carried through matrilineal lines since the Middle Passage. In their hands, working the earth becomes a profound act of resistance, binding the maker to territory, lineage, and the pursuit of liberation.

With filming and photography completed across Nevis and Jamaica, this project remains in development as a documentary film, seeking out those ready to inherit this cultural legacy. The clay remains patient, waiting for a new generation to embrace these ancient rhythms of creation.
