Keynote Speaker, Textile Society of America Fall Colloquium
I'm honored to be the keynote speaker at (re)Generation: Fibers of Resilience & Renewal — the Textile Society of America's virtual Fall Colloquium taking place October 8, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM ET. I'll be in conversation with TSA Board President Dr. Sharbreon Plummer, exploring cultural memory, community stewardship, and the regenerative futures that textiles and craft make possible.

In Residency Exhibition, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft
The work created during my residency at HCCC is now on view. This new body of work explores nerikomi pattern techniques alongside a contemporary Fula alphabet, writing the words Dear Mom with family archival images woven throughout.

I am currently a mentor of the Artist Grant Initiative program through Haystack Mountain School of Crafts — working alongside emerging makers to develop their creative voice, studio practice, and the business foundations every working artist needs.

FIT Commencement Speech
I returned to FIT as commencement speaker for the Class of 2026 — one of my greatest honors. FIT is where I found my voice and my focus on Black cultural design aesthetics, and where three generations of creative legacy converge. Coming back to speak felt like a full circle moment.

New Commission: Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex — Greensboro, NC
In February of 2025, Greensboro's arts community gathered to witness the beginning of something meaningful. I was selected by the Public Art Endowment to create a site-specific ceramic tile mural for the Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex — a work honoring the past, present, and future of Greensboro's cultural heritage and community. Debuts 2027.

I had the pleasure of being featured in this 90-minute documentary directed by John Campbell and co-produced by Tiana Webb Evans — a celebration of the history, present, and future of Jamaican artists in Jamaica and across the diaspora, including the USA, the UK, and beyond.

Studio Potter Apprenticeship — with Kemi Schleicher
Through the Studio Potter Apprenticeship Program, I mentored ceramic artist Kemi Schleicher over the course of a year — guiding her in developing a body of work rooted in her Nigerian American experience, while building the practical foundation every working artist needs: studio operations, business essentials, and strategies for marketing and selling work.
WORKSHOPS
Inspired by my book Crafted Kinship, these workshops are rooted in decades of research across African and Caribbean diasporic visual traditions — and in the belief that we all have a story to tell.
I've worked with students who touched clay for the first time and with experienced makers, at institutions including Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Cooper Hewitt, Platform by James Beard Foundation, and Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. What brings everyone to the table is the same: a desire to find a visual language that is genuinely their own.
Through demonstrations and hands-on work in clay — exploring stamping, carving, inlay, and resist techniques — I guide students in building a personal library of patterns drawn from their ancestry, community, and creative history. Pattern and clay become tools for empowerment, for excavating and sharing the stories that live in all of us.
I am available for domestic and international workshop experiences.
